This program is a component of YSEALI: the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative. YSEALI consists of bright young leaders aged 18-35 years from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Laos, East Timor, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. These young leaders have innovative ideas for tackling what they have identified as their generation’s greatest challenges in the ASEAN region. The Professional Fellows Program is a US State Department program, implemented by the Mansfield Center at the University of Montana.
The United States government will cover all participant costs, including international travel; travel and ground transportation in the U.S.; meals; lodging; and cultural allowances.
The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center (MC) of The University of Montana (UM) is honored to host a program of the U.S. Department of State. With participant Fellowships as a centerpiece, our program offers a hands-on approach to issues shared by the countries of Southeast Asia. The Center, part of the University of Montana, is dedicated to enhancing mutual understanding between the United States and Asia and to fostering ethical public policy and leadership. The Center supports this mission by fostering university and community links with Asia. A central part of its mission is bringing together scholars, policymakers, and leaders from around the world to speak on crucial global issues. The Center also hosts foreign scholars for joint research and exchange. Established in 1983, the Center honors the legacy of Senator Mike Mansfield and his wife, Maureen Hayes Mansfield. Known for ethical leadership and promoting peaceful relations with Asia, Senator Mike Mansfield was the nation’s longest serving Senate Majority Leader and longest serving ambassador to Japan. Mike Mansfield dedicated 60 years of his life to public service and is one Montana’s most distinguished and respected citizens.
If you will be asked to host U.S. participants at your place of work, the program for the Americans will be at no expense to you or your organization. American participants will be provided all funds for hotels, meals and transportation.
