Project DescriptionÂ
The purpose of this project is to research the effects social media has in today's culture and reveal our own social media usage
Social Media Statistic
From reading the article, I discovered that the most interesting fact for me was that when addressing which social media sites stood out their demographic differences, it said "Instagram: About half of Hispanic (52%) and Black Americans (49%) say they use the platform, compared with smaller shares of White Americans (35%) who say the same." It was shocking to me because what about Instagram yields a higher African American and Hispanic usage? As an African American I'm curious to know.
Social Media Addiction Quiz
After taking this quiz, my results reflected that I am fairly reliant on social media, and I can't say that I disagree. I find enjoyment in using it and it gives me a space to relax and temporarily forget about my own problems.
Social Media's Impact on Society
Lesson Learned
Since I'm seeing it from the standpoint of a current social media user, I would say that the impact social media has on today's society is neutral. It all depends on the user of the app. While negatives effects can be seen it typically happens to someone who depends on it for all stimulation. If social media is used in moderation and for enjoyment it should yield a positive impact. For example, watching during your nightly downtime like cute videos of puppies or seeing someone give to the homeless.
From this project I learned the statistics about social media usage for all age groups and demographics. I've also learned about my own social media usage and that I could cut back some.
