FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does the ARK Project provide guidance for individuals who secure a bed in an emergency shelter?
Yes. Click HERE to download and read a copy of the ARK Project’s user guide.
Why would I want to secure a bed and provisions in an emergency shelter?
Why do you have life insurance? Why do you have health and dental insurance? Why do you insure your home and car? The ARK Project offers the opportunity to outlast an emergency with a group of people who have prepared to survive a cataclysmic event like the scenarios shown in the videos How to Survive the First 90 Days and The World After Armageddon.
Why would I want to live in a post-apocalyptic world?
For most of the last 7,000 years (or 300,000 years, depending on your beliefs), mankind has struggled to survive in a hostile world. Only since Thomas Edison invented the light bulb in 1878 has man enjoyed electricity and its benefits. Over the past century, man has created a world with virtually every accommodation for comfort – but man has also created many weapons of mass destruction.
No one knows what a post-apocalyptic world will look like. However, if living in a post-apocalyptic world is no more difficult than living in the year 2,000 BC, wouldn’t someone who loves life want to do everything possible to enjoy living along with those they love?
Some people wouldn’t want to live in a post-apocalyptic world. Certainly, many people of Noah’s day did not – until they were faced with the stark reality of the Great Flood. Then they begged to enter the ark – but they had waited too long.
If a shelter is not available, what will I do?
Everyone should do whatever they can to prepare to survive. If a place in an emergency shelter offered by the ARK Project is not available, then CONTACT us and ask what can be done to make a shelter available in your area. In some locations, shelters may already be full; ask us how you can add your name to a waiting list. Why is the ARK Project working with Atlas Survival Shelters?
Building a high-quality, fully-equipped shelter can cost a single family up to several million dollars. The ARK Project provides living space in shelters at a fraction of the cost. Atlas Survival Shelters has expertise in building shelters offering protection from nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical weapons (manmade dangers). Atlas Survival Shelters also equips its shelters with the highest quality military-grade NBC air filtration systems that include a manual override and adjustable airflow valves.
How does someone know when it is time to enter their emergency shelter and what are the rules concerning how and when to enter the shelter?
The ARK Project has created an emergency shelter user guide. Members of each ARK community can supplement the rules and procedures outlined in the official user guide to meet their specific needs.
At least every 90 days, members of each ARK community should meet in person or via Zoom to participate in continuing education, discuss questions and answers, and customize/update their user guides. Their user guide provides specific guidance as to what is considered an emergency and how the participants in a given shelter will know that it is time to enter their shelter. It is important to note that these emergency shelters cannot and will never be used as homeless shelters. The user guide addresses this issue in more detail.
How does an emergency shelter access water?
Each shelter has access to a private water storage system and to city water or a private well. All water coming into the shelter is purified by an NU Aqua water system. When power sources are functioning, the water is pumped continuously. If power is interrupted, then hand cranks are used to pump the water from the dedicated well into the shelter. A 90-day supply of water is stored and maintained in each shelter so that if water from the well or the city is not accessible, shelter residents still have plenty of water available to them.
How is sewage managed?
Each emergency shelter has a dedicated septic tank that provides service for as long as needed.
How does the shelter receive its air supply?
Each shelter is equipped with four 6″ galvanized steel air intake pipes that are tamper-proof and hidden from view. Each of these vents allows outside air into the shelter, and the air is purified through an air filtration system installed in the shelter. Atlas Survival Shelters equips each of its shelters with military-grade NBC air filtration systems.
How do I enter the shelter?
Each shelter is accessed through an 8’x10’ shed, and each resident has a combination to the lock securing the shed door. Inside the shed, a bulletproof nuclear blast hatch opens to stairs leading down to the shelter entrance.
How do the shelters protect against nuclear, chemical, or biological contamination, and how are residents protected against contaminants upon entering the shelter?
The underground shelters are secured with two marine-grade gas-tight waterproof doors. Between the doors are a mudroom and a shower for decontamination.
Where do I park my car?
The user guide will advise you regarding parking at your location. In most cases, parking is available within a mile of the shelter, so you can easily walk with your go bag to your shelter.
Am I able to customize my own sleeping area?
Yes. The sleeping areas are equipped with a 3-panel sliding door for privacy. Sleeping areas are equipped with hooks for hanging a go bag and other items. Each area also has shelves and cubbies for books and personal items such as toiletries.
What happens if someone arrives with a child or an aging parent with nowhere else to go?
These are hard questions that must be addressed in each user guide. No pets are allowed, and only people with a certificate proving they have secured a place in the shelter are allowed into the shelter.
How do I prove I have a space in a particular shelter?
Each member receives a certificate that allows them access to the shelter. You will also get to know other members of the community by participating in Zoom meetings and a yearly 24-hour trial run inside the shelter. Each member is strongly encouraged to keep a copy of the certificate with them at all times to demonstrate the right of access when needed.
If I and those I am introducing to the ARK Project would like to fill the shelter with others who are aligned with our beliefs, is that permissible?
Yes. Advise the company regarding your interest in bringing together a community of like-minded participants.
