Some people discriminate because of skin color. Others trust only those who are from the same ethnic background and/or religion. I have pre-formed attitudes about people named Jeff.It is not a strong, negative compulsion I have against those named Jeff. I do not go door-to-door in my building with a petition to ban all such named people. I feel very comfortable with the fact that they have the right to vote.

The problem I have with the name is that it affects me the same way as the name Spot or Rover may affect someone else. Our family dog, our main dog, was name Jeff. He was a small black poodle. He started out skinny. Then, like many of us, became fatter and fatter. We had Jeff as part of our family during my years in elementary school and my first year of high school. Jeff was with me from my childhood to my boyhood (he did not make it to my manhood. I barely made it there myself).

We had other dogs. They do not hold as important a historical post as Jeff, though. We had a Dalmatian. This dog was stupid. Various members of the family used to take turns putting a ball in his or her mouth to show the dog how to fetch. Then there was a giant, I mean GIANT, German shepherd. He had to leave because he was in a constant frenzied sexual state. He used to jump on people who were on their way to church on Sundays. He almost had relations with our Fiat.

There was, however, a smoothness to Jeff. Except for walking on four legs and being most immodest about relieving himself, he was practically human. Had Frank Sinatra been a dog, he would have been Jeff. Jeff did not do the usual

The only times Jeff would become truly excited were when our mother came home from work. Her car could be 5 miles from the house and his little tail would start wagging. Within 3 miles and he would rise from his late afternoon nap. At 1 mile he would have his cold, black nose leaning against the front window while balancing himself on a footstool and a couple of books. When my mother`s car was coming up the block and in view, he would go crazy. Every day there would be jumping and yelping and tail-wagging.

Our mother was the only one who fed Jeff. This may have contributed to his frantic, unflinching loyalty to her. I had good intentions of feeding Jeff consistently. There was one week in which I actually did feed him every day. But he was to learn that I was not very good at making commitments (many women have since learned this about me also). Still, he considered me as a friend. At least I assume he did. When I entered a room he acknowledged me. He was neutral in the personality department. As long as you did not disturb his all- important nap, he did not disturb you. This noncaring attitude applied to other dogs as well. If there was another dog nearby, he gave a look, but that was about the extent of his reaction.

Sex, though, was a problem for Jeff. We were definitely not going to become millionaires based upon his stud services. In fact, he embarrassed us all when he was first put to the test. We had a more-than-willing female poodle arranged for his nuptial services. I do not want to go into detail concerning actual events. Suffice it to say that if he had had the abilities to communicate and called Dr. Ruth for advice, she would have retired.

Jeff was a part of my childhood that will never be forgotten. It feels strange that there is a new generation of our family (nieces and nephews) who do not know who Jeff was. They`ve seen the photos but they never scratched him behind his ears (this was his favorite).

The announcement comes after the hiring of head coach Teresa Weatherspoon earlier this month. Weatherspoon and Pagliocca replace James Wade, who served as the organization's head coach and GM from 2019 until July 1, when he announced he was leaving for an assistant coaching role with the NBA's Toronto Raptors.

Pagliocca -- the first standalone GM in Sky history -- had assisted with player development and advising the head coach for the past four seasons, including most recently serving as director of skill development in 2023. He also owns a company in the Chicago area that trains top high school, college, WNBA and NBA players.

"We are delighted to welcome Jeff Pagliocca as the Chicago Sky's new General Manager to identify and build the roster that will be a model for sustained success," Sky president and CEO Adam Fox said in a statement. "Jeff's expertise in player development and data driven talent evaluation, sophisticated basketball IQ, and his incredible relationships with players make him the perfect choice to complement Coach Weatherspoon as we strive for another championship in Chicago."

"I am beyond grateful to be named the new General Manager of the Chicago Sky," Pagliocca added. "I'm very proud to partner with Coach Weatherspoon and the Sky front office to shape a championship-caliber roster. With a strong background in strategy, player development, and tenure with this team, I am eager to build upon our tradition of excellence, hard work, and winning, in this energizing new chapter of Sky basketball. Expect us to bring unmatched toughness, grit, and relentless competitive spirit to Chicago."

The Sky have Kahleah Copper, Marina Mabrey, Elizabeth Williams, Isabelle Harrison and Dana Evans under contract for next season, but do not have a 2024 first-round pick. The team gave pick-swap rights to the Dallas Wings for their 2025 first-rounder in the trade Wade orchestrated in February that brought Mabrey to Chicago.

In addition to Glass, the San Diego Gulls named Lucas Hurtt as Video Coordinator, Jason McGee as Assistant Athletic Trainer, Drew Smith as Physical Therapist, and Ryan Kelsey as Assistant Equipment Manager.

Jeff began as a designer at New York Magazine in 1982. A year later, he was then named assistant art director at Grey Advertising. Following this, he joined Backer & Spielvogel as art director in 1984. After a brief stint as art director at Ally & Gargano in 1987, he was named senior art director at Anderson & Lembke/Chiat Day in 1988. In 1991, he was named partner/creative director at Ryan Drossman & Partners. Three years later, he came to us.

The name Jeff Pappalardo should also evoke thoughts of quite the pant-load of accomplishments. His work has been recognized by The One Show, Communication Arts, Art Direction Magazine, Connecticut Art Directors Club, The Globals, American Corporate Identity, District 2 ADDYs, and dozens of Buffalo ADDYs. In 2006, Jeff received the Alex Osborne Award for Creativity from AAF Buffalo. A year later he won Best of Show at the local ADDYs for posters created for a little bar in South Buffalo.

I had this conversation with my friend Ben a few months before my wedding, after I mentioned that I was planning on taking my husband's last name. Presumably, what Ben meant when he said "the kind of person who wouldn't" was educated, career-oriented, politically progressive- someone for whom getting married was a pleasant parallel track to other goals instead of an ambition in and of itself. Apparently, it's difficult to believe that a woman with a career, who strongly believes in women's equality, would take her husband's name.

I had always planned on being open to any permutation of the name-changing scenario. When I was single, I joked that I had planned on drawing straws for whose name my future partner and I would take as a family. In reality, unsurprisingly, it wasn't that simple.

When I met my husband, an observant Conservative Jew who participates in the rituals associated with being a Kohain, his name was strongly tied to his identity as a human. His name, and the rites that came with it, were his way of connecting to 5000 years of Jewish history, him passing on his name to his children was his way of perpetuating Jewish traditions into the future. His last name, Cohen, impacted how he lived his life and how he viewed his place in the world, and it was vitally important to him that his children have his name.

When we got engaged, he stressed that it didn't matter to him that I take his name, but I did so willingly and joyfully. I am proud to have his name and to be associated with the Kohain traditions. I take sideways glances at him when he and the other Kohains are blessing the congregation, and am filled with awe at the beauty of the tradition and pride at my place in preserving it. 152ee80cbc
