Audience Grabber: Welcome to the Lawrence Podcast! Here we talk about things that are controversial but need to be heard by not just you but for everyone. In the podcast, I talk about an article written by Morgan Simon who is an investor and social justice writer in which the title was called “Texas’ New Abortion Law Is Selling The Soul Of America”. Texas’s abortion law states that it prohibits women from getting an abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, roughly around six weeks, and before most women know they are pregnant. The only exception to this rule is if it is a medical emergency in which the doctor must prove the woman could die or face serious bodily impairment if the abortion isn’t carried out. The law differs from most other “heartbeat” bills implemented across the country by allowing private citizens to bring legal action against anyone who assisted in terminating the pregnancy, including those who drive a woman to the abortion appointment. After the bill went into effect, Texas’s abortion law is now the strictest in the country since Row v. Wade. in which the supreme court made the decision that the US constitution protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose without government restrictions.
