Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 13, 2026
Thank you for using "My Altitude-Altimeter GPS App" ("My Altitude", or "the App"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the App on iOS and Android.
1. Information We Collect
The App does not require account registration, and we do not intentionally collect personally identifiable information for our own customer database. However, depending on how you use the App, the following information may be processed:
- Location data. With your permission, the App reads your device's GPS location to show your altitude, coordinates, and local weather. Your coordinates are sent to our weather and elevation provider (Open-Meteo) to retrieve the data for your position. Location is used while you use the App; the App does not track your location in the background.
- Barometric sensor data. If your device has a barometer, the App reads air pressure to calculate pressure readings and the water boiling point. This data is processed on your device.
- Camera and photo library access. If you choose to take or select a photo to stamp with your altitude, the App accesses your camera or photo library, and, with your permission, saves the resulting photo back to your library. Photos are processed on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
- Saved readings and preferences. Readings you save, your unit settings, theme, selected language, and downloaded offline regions are stored locally on your device.
- Search queries. If you search for a place, the text you enter is sent to the Open-Meteo geocoding service to find matching locations.
- Purchase and subscription data. If you buy a subscription, our subscription provider (Adapty) and the app store process the transaction and receive an anonymous user identifier along with basic device, app, and purchase information. We never receive or store your payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use information only to provide and improve the App's features. Specifically, we use it to:
- Show your current altitude, coordinates, barometric pressure, and water boiling point
- Show current weather conditions for your position or a place you look up
- Display maps and let you download regions for offline elevation lookups
- Save your readings and remember your settings between sessions
- Create photos stamped with your altitude and let you save or share them
- Determine your subscription status so that premium features such as unlimited saved readings, offline region downloads, and the watermark without the app badge can be unlocked
- Diagnose problems and improve the stability and quality of the App
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising profiling.
3. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:
- Open-Meteo — weather, elevation, and geocoding data. It receives the coordinates or place names you look up.
- Adapty — subscription management and purchase status. It receives an anonymous user identifier and basic device, app, and purchase information.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — payment processing, subscription billing, and purchase restoration.
- Google Maps (on Android) and Apple Maps (on iOS) — map display in the World tab.
- Expo — the platform used to build and run the App, including standard crash and update infrastructure.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these providers to understand how they handle data.
4. Data Storage
Your saved readings, preferences, and downloaded offline regions are stored locally on your device, in the App's own storage, and are removed when you delete the App. We do not maintain our own user database or store your location history on our servers. Requests to third-party services described above are transmitted over the network to those providers and are handled according to their retention practices.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information the App processes. Network requests to third-party services are made over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Because most data stays on your device, its security also depends on your device's own protections, such as a passcode, biometric lock, and device encryption. Please note that no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete information relating to you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Because the App stores your data locally and does not maintain user accounts, you can exercise most of these rights directly:
- Revoke location, camera, photo library, or motion permissions at any time in your device settings
- Delete saved readings and downloaded offline regions inside the App
- Delete all local data by uninstalling the App
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings
If you have further requests concerning your data, please contact us at KallumDanielBrooks@icloud.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, our practices, or legal requirements. The updated version will be posted with a new Effective Date. Your continued use of the App after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
9. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us at:
- Email: KallumDanielBrooks@icloud.com
By using the App, you agree to the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy.
