I would like to know how to play media (audio and video) files that are located in a folder and its subfolders using Windows.I don't want to create a music libraries first. I simply want to click on a media file, have a player start playing it and continue with the next files in that folder and subfolders.Is there any solution?

If you use VLC-MediaPlayer you can simply right click on the folder where the media files are and select "Play with VLC" or something like this. This action selects all media files within the folder and its subfolders.

MSC mode is the original tried-and-true system, in which your player is seen like storage, just like a USB flash drive. Did you check that there is no hidden file (I think it should be named .nomedia or .noaudio or something like that), that tells the audio player to not search in that folder for music files?

(For information : I use the share option of the folder instead of sharing with external storage because I want to share it in readonly mode. By the way, I tried to share this way (i.e. directly from the folder) with the permission to modify : I had the same issue.)

I experience the same problem. If I share a folder the other users can see and play the files individually but scanning of the share does not work. Files are found but none included .

If I make the share writable it works fine.

Yes, all media players discovered are on but playback to all of them fails. So I think it has to do with something on the configuration side of music assistant. When I press play, my Kodi player is shaken out of the screensaver, so I know there is some attempt. But nothing plays.

No, Poweramp is not a file manager, it does not offer copy/move/rename/new_folder/etc functionality. You can however delete a file once it is finished with - useful for things you only want to listen to once, such as podcasts etc. But rather like batch tag manipulation, I suspect that heavily extending the file management features is probably rather beyond the scope of a music player.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and am looking for a music player (banshee, rhythmbox or other) which can display the music files and folders as-is and not organized by artist/album/genre or some other field. I tried out banshee and rhythmbox and could not figure how to.

I am having a weird thing happen in the Roku media Player. I like to view videos/folders because I know what I want to watch and am trying to go to the folder it's in. When I pull up the folder, things in other folders appear, sometimes in a jumbled order. For instance, I want to watch the tv show, law and order. So I go to the law and order folder. I am presented with a list of folders that have seasons. I choose season 5. When it loads season 5 episodes, it has files for Cheers, Back to the Future 1 or other shows, but Law and Order is nowhere on the list.

I'm not sure if thats what your asking for, but it's a standard structure. Roku Media Player should only be reading what is in that particular folder and listing them as such. It's reading folders outside of the Name of TV Show layer folder...

I have 1 PC with Windows 10 Pro 64bit on which I have installed VMware Workstation 17 Player. I've virtually installed Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. I configured the shared folder on Workstation 17 Player but Linux doesn't see it. When I'm on Linux I go to 'Other locations / Windows Network', then 'loading' appears and at the end I don't see the shared folder or the files contained in the shared folder. I tried to change the network type (only host, nat, etc...), tried all the combinations but it didn't solve. Why is it so difficult to share a folder with the host system?

Also, sharing folders via Workstation's shared folders mechanism does not use Windows SMB file sharing or NFS. It uses a different mechanism that isn't considered as a network by the Ubuntu "Files" application. That's that's why you won't see them under "Other Locations/Windows Network". Workstation even if the system is configured with the workaround.

When the recommended persistent workaround is in place, you will find your shared folders mounted under /mnt/hgfs in the VM. Use the Files application to navigate there. You may want to put a shortcut in the Files application in order to get there more quickly in the future.

Still, I have an issue: Synchron Player doesn't propose me the customized instruments I made, which are all located on an SSD drive in a User folder (and which is located on the same SSD drive on which are all my samples). Although I showed Synchron Player the path where to find them. Yesterday, after many tries, they appeared, but this morning they won't show again.

You create a folder called "Vienna Synchron Player" that contains exactly the same structure as in the attached pic, and you set the Preset path to the parent folder, in my case: /Users/paul/Documents
