About Martin

Martin certainly doesn't have what most people imagine to be the background of a typical artist. Although born in Northern Ireland, his childhood was based in the Black Country, but his teenage years were spent in the wilds of Canada battling through snow drifts and forests to support his doctor uncle with kitchen table operations.

Adult life found him in a variety of occupations, ranging from serving with the Royal Engineers to teaching. He reckons the latter very rewarding years were often considerably tougher than being a soldier!

Whatever his work, Martin was always dabbling in art, but it is only in retirement, that he has the leisure to develop his skills. His watercolours reflect his love of the outdoors, often depicting the wide skies of Norfolk or the fiery scenes of the old Black Country. He also enjoys working with clay to produce hand crafted items which vary from unique collectors' chess sets to character animals.
