There is a common thread that holds these selections together: each is an artifact of my academic experiences made strange by triggering repressed trauma:
First, I have included a still unfinished book about Leonora Carrington who is an unjustifiably understudied Modern artist and member of the Surrealist Movement. When I looked at her work I saw a piece of myself, a common ground that I shared with the artist and author even though we are seperated in space in time. My intention is to finish my interpretation of her painting, El mundo mágico de los mayas and publish it by the end of the year. Next, I have included my peer reviewed and published work, The Ritual of gCod in Tibetan Religion. This selection encompasses all of my learning about South and Central Asian religion and culture and, I believe, is represenative of my best writing and research. Third, I have also included some of my personal writing, an ongoing retrospective log of my experiences getting booted out of Che's Lounge. My summer goal is to further develop my ability to write reflectively and creatively--this log represents the first stage in this process. Fourth, because I am a teacher, I have included a pedalogical and andralogical (or anthrogogical) philosophy that governs my practice. It is, however, perhaps too radical to use professionally. To illustrate my approach, methodology, and overall philosophy of teaching, I have also included a lesson plan with an accompanying rationale, notes, and bibliography (for the Southern Arizona Writing Project Invitational Summer Institute Inquiry Project). I plan to add to and revise this work on an ongoing basis as I begin implementing it in the classroom next year.
If I have shared this or you simply stumbled upon it and you have any concerns, advice, or would like to collaborate with me on any of these projects, please send me an email at mwellirving@gmail.com.
