Frequently Asked Questions

What is a math teachers' circle?

A math teachers' circle is a group of local math educators who meet together to share best practices and do math. Our intention is to foster a community around the learning and teaching of mathematics to all those who are interested in the Merrimack Valley area.

Who should attend the Math Mill sessions?

The short answer is, anyone who is interested in math education!!

However, our target audience is math educators of all levels, from kindergarten through college. You don't have to be a math teacher to attend though! We welcome anyone involved in math education, ranging from teachers, coaches, tutors, specialists, district level support positions, college professors, and beyond.

We do ask for an RSVP, so we can get an idea of how much food to order, but you are welcome to join us even if you forget or don't have a chance to RSVP.

Do I need to attend every meeting?

Nope! You can feel free to join in on any meeting dates that work for your schedule. However, the benefit of attending multiple, consecutive meetings is building community and networking with other math educators. If you would like to stay up to date on sessions you may have missed, we will be updating highlights on our website!

Can I get college credit or PDPs for attending Math Mill meetings?

In Massachusetts, you must attend a minimum of 5 sessions (10 hours) to obtain PDPs. PDPs will be awarded at the end of each school year based off attendance. For those of you in New Hampshire, the Math Mill is happy to provide a letter to show proof of attendance. Unfortunately at this point, we are not able to offer any college credit or continuing education credits.

Who leads the Math Mill sessions?

Our sessions are led by mathematicians, math teachers, and math teacher educators in the Merrimack Valley.

What do I need to bring with me to attend a meeting?

Just yourself! We'll have scrap paper, pens, pencils, and any session-specific materials you need. However, feel free to bring any writing materials with you that you would like. Any session that will encourage the use of specific materials, such as laptops, will be listed ahead of time.

Where do Math Mill meetings take place?

Sessions are held in room 161 Coburn Hall (850 Broadway Street). There is free parking available in the Coburn Hall lot.

What is the cost of attending a session?

Absolutely free! We will provide breakfast-type snacks along with lunch.
