MVHS Theatre Arts
2020 - 2021

There are many elective classes that happen during the school day.

• • Theatre Arts 1-4 (For gr. 9-12) Improv, Theatre Games, Acting, Directing, Writing Plays, Theatre History

  • Theatre Arts Dual Enrollment (For gr. 11-12. Earn College Credit! GPA Boost!)

  • IB Theatre Arts (For gr. 11-12. GPA Boost!)

  • Technical Theatre 1-4 (For gr. 9-12) All of the BACKSTAGE stuff: Construction (Power Tools & Saws), Painting, Costumes (Sewing), Hair & Make-up, Lighting, Sound (Audio Editing), Publicity

We produce 5 shows each school year:

• • Full Length Play (hopefully this fall!): The Illusion

  • Winter Children’s Theatre One Act Play: Tinker Bell

  • VHSL One Act Competition Play, being written and directed by our students!

  • Spring Musical: Mary Poppins

  • June Outdoor One Act Play: The Love for Three Oranges

These shows are open to ALL MVHS students. You don’t have to be in a theatre class. You can audition to be in the cast, sign up to work backstage on the crew, or BOTH!

International Thespian Society, Troupe 1779 is our theatre honorary, and it’s internationally recognized. This means it looks great on your resume and you get honors cords to wear at graduation.

You are eligible to be inducted after you earn 10 “thespian” points, which can be earned by participating in the various theatre activities.

About once a month we have improv club after school. It’s fun and open to all MVHS students.

There are also improv competitions (which are really just improv games with points that only sort of matter). These happen around the county and we have a team that goes and competes.

Cappies critics attend shows at other schools and write reviews about them. If you are interested in participating, there is an application process. Just let Mrs. Shaw know and we’ll get you started!
