While many schools offer a more general education on health, medicine, and anatomy, few offer specified and in-depth coursework on the subject of neuroscience. The International Youth Neuroscience Association offers neuroscientific curriculum, projects, experiments, research opportunities, and field-specific competitions to students all over the world. The Mission Vista chapter offers access to this global initiative on a local level, and we hope to provide students with the tools and resources to explore the field of neuroscience.
IYNA is an existing and established organization that has a curated curriculum, as well as a network of mentors and students. They offer many scientific and student-available opportunities such as the Brain Bee, the student-written bi-monthly journal, and a mentorship program that connects students with undergraduate, graduate, and professional mentors. There is also a multitude of scholarly resources available for students through the club such as a comprehensive resource database and activity guides.
Neuroscience is a science that deals with the structure and functions of the nervous system. This is a topic that most students don't encounter until university studies, if even at all. It is our goal to make this field more accessible to high school students through research, collaboration, and discussion. Many students cannot afford summer programs or simply do not have the resources to learn about the field on their own, but we hope to change that. We offer symposiums, lectures, and presentations for students at school. In doing so, we aim to diversify the field and make it more approachable.
