Over the past six years, the MVHS orchestra program has grown in both number of students and the quality of performances. Our top ensemble has consistently earned Superior ratings at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) state assessment performances and most recently earned the Virginia Music Educators Association Blue Ribbon Award for the first time in school history. This award is presented to high schools whose three main performing ensembles (Orchestra, Band, and Choir) earn all “Superior” ratings at annual assessment performances.
To maintain this high level of musical excellence, our students benefit from the many incredible activities that take place during the school year, including guest clinicians/conductors, performing trips across the country, and most recently, the premiere of a brand-new composition for string orchestra entitled Free Fall that got us quite a bit of local recognition!
These experiences for our students are invaluable to their ability to bring beautiful music into our schools and community. We are counting on our community to help us continue to fund these experiences for years to come.
Your donation will directly fund the following:
Orchestra Day 2023 (guest conductor clinic opportunity for students)
Reducing the cost-per-student of our April 2023 Performing Arts trip to Disney World (FL), where the orchestra program has been selected to participate in a workshop at the Walt Disney World Imagination Campus
