NotebookLM is an AI-powered research and note‑taking application developed by Google Labs, built on the Gemini large language model. It allows users to upload up to 50 different sources—such as PDFs, Google Docs, Google Slides, web links, YouTube videos, or audio files—and uses retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) to generate summaries, answer questions grounded in those materials, produce study guides, and even create interactive audio “podcast style” overviews. NotebookLM works like a virtual research assistant that helps you organize, digest, and interact with your own documents.
"NotebookLM does not use your personal data, including your source uploads, queries, and the responses from the model for training."
NotebookLM includes 3 ways to use in the classroom:
Power study: Upload lecture recordings, textbook chapters, and research papers. Ask NotebookLM to explain complex concepts in simple terms, provide real-world examples, and reinforce your understanding.
Organize your thinking: Upload your source material and let NotebookLM create a polished presentation outline, complete with key talking points and supporting evidence.
Spark new ideas: Upload brainstorming notes, market research, and competitor research. Ask NotebookLM to identify trends, generate new product ideas, and uncover hidden opportunities.
