Family

A huge milestone in my life was meeting with my future wife, where else but at the choir itself? Later on we would experience the choir as a family. An anecdote from those happy days: At one rehearsal my wife had our youngest child, a girl barely a year old, in a baby chair in front of her in the soprano section when Fr Cachia our director insisted on a sharp cutoff for a high note only to hear a lone voice dragging it further. He changed from being mad at the sopranos to a grin on his face when they told him it was our daughter. This fact can attest that she already had perfect pitch from that young age.

Seeing the interest and music potential in our three children as they grew up, we set off to help them by buying a used upright piano, then looking for a suitable music teacher we could afford. Luckily a friend of one of my older sisters offered to come to our house and teach them for free. And yes she did set them on the right course - Nowadays our eldest son teaches music in a high school in Switzerland and plays the church organ in various villages - Our second son sings modern music and organizes local and area concerts of that genre calling other musicians from near and far for the gigs - Our daughter graduated in music from a college in Ontario and had her own music school for a while, teaching keyboard and voice.

Christmas time Fr Cachia used to organize a concert in the church with kids especially those of the Hamrun Choir members including ours. They sang a special set of Christmas carols in Maltese to the accompaniment of an orchestra.
