Chikondi Phiri
Music Instructor
Chikondi teaches music at a local community center. She's passionate about giving people creative outlets to express themselves and often uses instruments to teach confidence and teamwork. She currently lacks access to affordable and durable instruments. The vocational students' work will support her goals of making music more relevant in her community and inspiring her students to express creativity.
Tiwonge Banda
Musician/Student
Tiwonge is a student at a vocational school in Malawi, who will learn to construct guitars based on our design process. He has a passion for music, but has limited access to tools and materials to produce an instrument. He is working to master his skills in carpentry to create a functional guitar and learn to play the instruments he will build.
Jason Zulu
Musician/Performer
Jason performs at local events in his community. His goal is to find an affordable and reliable guitar for his musical endeavors. A guitar made by his community will give him pride, knowing his instrument was locally crafted by hand. The unique and handmade look of the guitar will make Jason stand out amongst other performers.

Bruno
Instructor at a vocational school in Malawi
We are working with Bruno on our project, who teaches carpentry at a vocational school in Malawi. He has communicated with us that the frets have been his biggest challenge, so we are working to determine the best and simplest way to design them in order to benefit Bruno and his students.
Pete Schwartz
Professor at Cal Poly
Our professor is helping to connect us with mentors and partners to ensure we have the best success in our project. He is also helping to design the tuning pegs for our guitar design, which have proven to be a major challenge.
Matt Ritter
Professor at Cal Poly
Outside of his teaching, Matt Ritter spends his free time woodworking. We had the opportunity to meet with him to discuss our design plans and gain valuable insight on how we should proceed with our project.
