FAQs

How did The Music Collective start?

Keith Jones and Antoinette Webster started Music Cafe in Hamilton in 1999.  They hosted hundreds of musicians for 23 years and retired as organizers in 2022.  Steve Covington and Anne Bangert, area musicians in the bands Steve Covington & the Humble Strays and Stick & Bindle, took over management of the program in 2023.

Are the concerts free?

Yes!  The Music Collective events are free and open to the public.  Miami Regionals sponsors our events and provides the space and equipment.  Audience members who wish to donate to the program and/or performers can do so at events and on our Patreon page!

Where do donations go?

Donations made to artist tip jars and/or through their own platforms go home with them the night they perform.  Any donations made to The Music Collective program go towards updating equipment, promotional materials, event supplies and refreshments, etc.

Do musicians get paid?

Unfortunately, not at this time.  Musicians donate their time to perform at our monthly events.  As we do not charge for shows and do not take in revenue, we operate on the generosity of Miami University Regionals and donations from the community and do not have a budget to pay performers.  We do take every opportunity to promote musicians on their platforms and hope to provide audio and/or video footage of performances.  We will also encourage performers to put out tip jars, Venmo/Paypal account info, etc. to be tipped directly.
