I have suggestions on what you should listen to. Feel free to donate whatever you think my opinions are worth, and get my personal recommendations listening guide! I will share my favorites with you and why I enjoy them. In the guide I highlight 5 pieces that you MUST hear for each award along with 5 composers I discovered while creating this project. To get the listening guide, check out the Buy Me a Coffee button at the bottom of every page.
It can be very intimidating to stare at all the different possibilities on each of the pages. The point of this website is to discover music that you have never heard before. This website contains over 100 hours of music to listen to, and choosing a starting point can be difficult.
I recommend first asking yourself what ensemble you are interested in. The Sousa/Oswald Award is for concert band, where the Grammy and Pulitzers are for many ensembles. Every piece has the ensemble listed. Next ask yourself, how much time you have for listening to music. Every piece has an approximate duration listed. Finally, look for titles or composers that grab your attention. Maybe you want to discover a composer you have never heard of? A dedicated composer page is coming soon.
Have you ever wondered what the music community believes is the best contemporary classical music written? Do you know where to find the music? The idea for an all in one website came to Kaleb when he was searching online for music to study. Each instructor would mention different awards to pay attention to. It quickly became overwhelming to keep track of them and search for all the music, especially since not all the sites are user friendly.
The solution was obvious. If all the important awards are on one website, it would be easy to remember which pieces had been searched. Not only can one remember what had been searched, but a link to a recording saves the time searching youtube/spotify for a recording. Not only is time saved by not searching for a recording, but also time is saved when you would like to check out the composer’s website, because it is also linked.
