About

This 4-year project - funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) - aims to shed new light on the nature and main properties of musical creativity in the domains of performance, education, and composition.

What is musical creativity? How can we systematically compare creative and non-creative musical behaviours? Can novel understandings of creativity impact on the way we perform, learn, create, and reflect upon music?

The project involves empirical and theoretical research at the intersection of Music, Psychology, Pedagogy, and the Cognitive Humanities. It is based on the close collaboration of experts working in complementary disciplines, and draws on recent scholarship in embodied and interactive cognitive science.

As the investigation progresses, novel insights and empirical findings will be communicated via open access publications and talks in conferences.

The project is based at the Centre for Systematic Musicology of The University of Graz.
