Point Distribution for the Course
Quizzes. There will be a total of THIRTEEN (13) quizzes, corresponding to the 13 modules/chapters that we will cover in the course textbook. Quizzes will be taken IN-PERSON, on Mondays, starting in the 3rd week of the semester. You must be present in class to take the quiz. Each IN-PERSON quiz is worth 10 points and will have multiple choice and true/false questions. TOTAL points available on Quizzes = 130 points (13 quizzes @ 10pts/each).
If you miss the quiz on any given week, you can take a partial credit make-up quiz online, through Canvas. Details are in the Canvas shell.
Discussions. Discussions will take place IN-PERSON on Wednesdays. If you are present in class (or at our weekly live musical concert) you will receive full credit for the discussion that week. TOTAL points available on Discussions = 130 points (13 discussions @ 10pts/each)
If you miss the discussion on any given week, you can create partial credit discussion post online, through Canvas. Details are in the Canvas shell.
Final Exam – Listening Quiz = 25 points
This exam will be 25 questions (worth 1pt/each), where you listen to excerpts of music that have been heard throughout the semester, and answer questions about them. PLEASE NOTE: The final exam MUST begin at 12:30pm according to the final exam schedule and will take place in person.
GRADING SCALE - There are 285 points available in the class (quizzes + discussions)
285 - 256 points = A
255 - 228 points = B
227 - 199 points = C
198 - 171 points = D
Extra Credit/Make Ups
Online quizzes and discussion posts can function as EXTRA CREDIT if you completed everything in person.
Online quizzes and discussion posts can function as MAKE UPS if you missed an in person quiz or discussion.
