Privacy Policy for Mushroom Map
Last updated: 12.06.2026
1. General Information
This Privacy Policy describes how the Mushroom Map mobile application (the “App”) processes data.
The data controller (for any data that may qualify as personal data) is:
SILESIA SOFTWARE Wojciech Ustrzycki
E‑mail: schlesischensoftware@gmail.com
The App is intended for personal use and does not require user registration or an account.
2. Data Processed by the App
The App processes the following categories of data, stored locally on the user’s device:
Mushroom findings data:
mushroom type (e.g. Porcini, Chanterelle, etc.),
date and time of the finding,
GPS coordinates of the finding location (latitude and longitude),
quantity of mushrooms found,
optional file path to a photo stored on the device.
Device location data (GPS):
current device location is used to:
save the coordinates of mushroom findings, and
display the user’s position on the map.
Export / import data:
the user can manually export their findings to a JSON file stored on the device,
the user can also import such JSON files from the device.
3. How and Where Data Is Stored
The data described in section 2 is stored locally on the user’s device in the App’s local database and in files (photos, JSON exports).
This data is not automatically transmitted to the App developer or to any other third party.
The user has full control over:
adding and deleting findings,
creating backups (export to JSON),
deleting exported files or photos from the device storage.
4. Permissions Required by the App
The App may request the following system permissions:
Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION)
purpose: to read the device’s current location in order to save the coordinates of mushroom findings and display the user’s location on the map.
Camera (CAMERA)
purpose: to take photos of mushroom findings directly from within the App.
Access to storage / files (via standard Android mechanisms)
purpose: to save photos of findings and JSON export files to the device storage, and to read such files when importing data.
Granting permissions is voluntary, but the absence of certain permissions may prevent the use of some features (for example, saving the location of a finding or taking photos).
5. Use of OpenStreetMap
The App uses maps provided by OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, UK) via tile servers at https://tile.openstreetmap.org.
When the map is displayed in the App:
the WebView on the user’s device sends HTTP(S) requests to OpenStreetMap servers to download map tiles,
for each such request, OpenStreetMap may process, among other things:
the device’s IP address,
the date and time of the request,
the URL of the requested tile (which includes coordinates of the displayed area and zoom level),
technical information about the browser/device (e.g. User-Agent, operating system),
other standard HTTP headers.
These data are processed by OpenStreetMap Foundation for the purposes of service operation, security, and traffic analysis.
The App does not send any additional personal information (such as name, e‑mail address, or the content of the local mushroom findings database) to OpenStreetMap.
For details about how OpenStreetMap Foundation processes data, please refer to:
Privacy Policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
Tile Usage Policy: https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/
6. Legal Basis for Data Processing
If the data processed by the App (location, mushroom findings) is considered personal data under GDPR, the legal basis for processing is:
the user’s consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), expressed by:
installing and using the App,
granting the relevant permissions (location, camera),
or
the legitimate interests of the user (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), namely keeping personal notes and a private archive of mushroom findings.
For data processed by OpenStreetMap servers, the legal bases are defined by OpenStreetMap Foundation in its own privacy policy.
7. Data Sharing
Mushroom findings, location data, and photos stored locally are not automatically shared with the App developer or other third parties.
The user may choose to share exported files manually (e.g. via e‑mail, cloud storage, or messaging apps). Such sharing takes place outside the control and responsibility of the App.
Technical data related to map tile requests (IP address, etc.) is processed by OpenStreetMap Foundation in accordance with its own policies.
8. Data Retention
Data stored in the App is retained until the user deletes it or uninstalls the App.
After uninstalling the App, local data may be automatically removed by the Android system (depending on configuration) or may remain as files (e.g. photos, JSON exports) in the device storage – the user can delete such files manually.
Technical logs on OpenStreetMap’s side are retained and deleted according to OpenStreetMap Foundation’s policies.
9. User Rights
To the extent that any processed data qualifies as personal data, the user has the rights granted by GDPR, in particular:
right of access,
right to rectification,
right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”),
right to restriction of processing,
right to object to processing,
right to data portability,
right to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal).
In practice, most of these rights are exercised directly by the user through:
deleting individual findings,
uninstalling the App,
deleting exported files or photos from the device.
For questions or requests related to data that may be processed by the App developer, the user can contact:
E‑mail: schlesischensoftware@gmail.com
For data processed by OpenStreetMap Foundation, the user should follow the instructions provided in OpenStreetMap’s own privacy policy.
10. Data Security
The App does not automatically transmit mushroom findings data to any remote server controlled by the developer.
Data is stored locally using standard Android mechanisms (local database, file system).
The user is responsible for protecting the device (screen lock, password, encryption, etc.) to prevent unauthorized access to data stored in the App.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the App’s features change, if legal requirements change, or if required by third‑party service providers (e.g. OpenStreetMap).
Material changes may be communicated through:
an updated version of the App and a note in the app store listing (e.g. Google Play), or
an update of this document (with a new “Last updated” date).
12. Contact
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or data processing in the App, please contact:
