Final Capstone Proposal
My final capstone is a senior recital on March 14th at 4:00 pm in the Hayworth Chapel. My recital will feature my performances and collaborations with others on classical piano, classical guitar, and jazz singing with a combo. This recital will be for my family, friends, faculty, and peers, and will serve as a representation for what I ave learned in my time in college as well as gratitude to others that have helped me grow as a musician and a person. There will be student and teacher collaborators in my recital, therefore a few barriers are the availability of my collaborators to rehearse prior to the recital as well as the availability of rehearsal spaces. There are always barriers with technology such as microphones and amplifiers not working; therefore, it will be important to be prepared ahead of time. The key stages and major tasks will be staying consistent with practicing and rehearsing with my collaborators. It will be important for timeline purposes to have an appropriate day and time for the jury a month prior to the recital. I will assess the project's success through my own personal satisfaction as well as feedback I will get from my audience. Making a difference and inspiring who this recital is for is more important to me than being perfect.
Final Reflection
I have learned to be better in planning ahead of time. Being an implementer of my project has allowed me to go about this process responsibly with exact plans. I have had practice with collaboration prior to my education through piano accompaniments as well as piano and guitar duets, both of which will be featured in my senior recital. I have been able to build on that experience here through duet performances as well as singing with the jazz ensemble and both have taught me better techniques in their own ways. All of the processes required real growth, because it has made me think more critically about my recital than I have in the past. It was not difficult for these parts to come together throughout the process; it only required more thought. The strategy that I will carry forward the most is productivity methods and the reflection models. It is very helpful to have models that ensure continued productivity for maximum success, and keeping a log to encourage productivity is very valuable. Reflection models are also very important because reflection encourages contentment in what you have already accomplished and ways for improvement for future betterment. I think what surprised me most during the mission and logistics is how much could quite possibly go wrong in the process of preparement and all the elements that are involved in the recital, and this encourages me to be well prepared and to have back-up plans in case something goes wrong. I still feel uncertainty with being well prepared for my pieces because, as a classical musician, I feel you can always be better and more prepared, especially if you have performance anxiety. Going forward, I can fix that uncertainty by practicing more including rehearsal with my collaborators and being responsible ahead of time with when we will be able to, so that I can feel more prepared and have the most successful recital that I possibly can.
