The Municipal Market of Kos is a small indoor market (Δημοτική Αγορά // Dimotiki Agora) located on the edge of Eleftherias Square, opposite the Archaeological Museum. The central atrium is still used as an open-air market, while the surrounding shops have been converted into coffee shops and restaurants.

At the Municipal Market of Kos, you will find plenty of fresh and dried fruits (such as figs and apricots), as well as a wide variety of local products, herbs, and spices.

There are many gift ideas and souvenirs to choose from, but the local honey and olive oil are among the most traditional and popular products you can buy.

With its arcades, the Kos Municipal Market is a true gem of the city. The arches and the impressive central atrium make the building stand out architecturally. Inside the market hall (agora), you’ll discover a rich variety of local goods — traditional tomato spoon sweet, honey, olive oil, kanelada (a cinnamon-flavored drink), the famous krasotiri (goat cheese aged in red wine), local wines, fresh fruits and vegetables, ouzo — but the truly irresistible aromas come from the abundance of spices, flavorings, and herbs.

Besides treating your taste buds, you can also find all kinds of souvenirs, from magnets and sea sponges to miniature Greek hero helmets. The market is open daily from early morning, and during the summer season, it stays open until late.
