The "PAMANA’T YAMAN: Tagkawayan Local Cultural Profile" initiative aims to protect and conserve Tagkawayan's natural resources and cultural heritage, while enhancing community awareness and managing local festivals for socio-economic development. In January 2021, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagkawayan reached out to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to implement a Cultural Mapping Project amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NCCA responded promptly, leading to the formation of a Cultural Mapping Committee through Executive Order No. 58. The project began with a 'Scoping & Negotiation' phase, followed by 'Social Preparation,' where local mappers were trained on cultural mapping techniques. Despite challenges posed by the pandemic, including illness and travel restrictions, significant progress was made in identifying cultural resources.
By December 2021, 40 items were uploaded for review, and the Mock Validation took place, assessing mapped items related to natural and cultural heritage. The Community Validation, held on March 10, 2022, involved local and external validators who provided feedback on 52 mapped items.
The project culminated in the preparation of Tagkawayan's Local Cultural Profile, set for official turnover in May 2022. This initiative marks a significant step in recognizing and preserving the town's cultural heritage for future generations, fostering a deeper appreciation of Tagkawayan's unique identity.
Kaway Tagkawayan!
