Mum's Cooking — Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Mum's Cooking is a personal recipe management application designed to help you store and manage recipes, photos, videos, and audio notes. This Privacy

Policy explains how the app handles your information and device permissions. Mum's Cooking is offline-first: by default, your content stays on your device.

2. Information We Collect

- User-provided content (stored locally): recipes, ingredients, notes, tags, photos, audio notes, and videos that you choose to add.

- App settings (stored locally): your preferences, such as theme, dietary profile, and kitchen settings.

- No personal data collection by default: Mum's Cooking does not collect, transmit, or share personal information by default. The app does not require an account, and your content stays on your device.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to provide app features, such as:

- Saving and displaying recipes and media

- Searching and organizing your recipe library

- On-device features such as nutrition estimates, allergen/dietary flags, and ingredient substitutions (computed locally — see Section 12)

- Enabling optional import/export backups you initiate

We do not sell your data.

4. Offline-First & Local Storage

By default, your content is stored locally on your device (e.g., an SQLite database and local file storage). The app does not require internet connectivity for core functionality. Mum's Cooking includes an optional Cloud Backup. When you turn it on, it saves your cookbook to your own iCloud or Google Drive account, under your Apple or Google login. Your data goes only to your personal cloud storage. We operate no servers and never receive, store, or access your backups. Cloud Backup is off unless you enable it, and you can disable it or delete backups at any time.

5. Permissions

Mum's Cooking may request the following permissions so specific features can work:

- Camera (android.permission.CAMERA / iOS Camera): Used only when you choose to take photos or record videos for recipes (e.g., dishes, cooking steps). Captured media is stored locally on your device unless you choose to share it.

- Microphone (android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO / iOS Microphone): Used only when you choose to record audio notes or record video with sound.

- Photos / Media / Storage: Used to let you select existing photos/videos, save recipe media locally, and support import/export backups. Exported files are created only when you explicitly request export, and saved to a location you choose.

You can deny these permissions in your device settings. Denying permissions may limit certain features but does not block general app use.

 6. Data Sharing

Mum's Cooking does not share your data with third parties. The only time your data can leave your device is when you explicitly choose to:

 - Share content using your device's share options, or

 - Export backups and move them yourself

 - Enable Cloud Backup, which copies your data to your own iCloud or Google Drive account (never to us)

7. Import/Export Feature

The app includes import/export features that allow you to create backup files (for example, ZIP backups). These backups may contain recipes and media. You are responsible for how you store and share exported files.

8. Purchases

Mum's Cooking is free to download and includes an optional one-time Lifetime Unlock. Purchases and restores are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details, and no account or personal information is required to buy or restore the unlock.

9. Advertising

Mum's Cooking does not display its own advertising and does not include third-party advertising or ad-tracking SDKs in the app.

10. In-App Browser & Third-Party Websites

The app includes an optional in-app browser so you can find and import recipes from websites you choose to visit. Those websites are operated by third parties we do not own or control. They may show their own advertising, use cookies, and collect data under their own privacy policies. We have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, the content, advertising, tracking, availability, or practices of any third-party website, and we do not receive your browsing activity from them. Recipe content you import is provided by the source website; you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to save and use it.

 11. Third-Party Services (Analytics)

Currently, Mum's Cooking does not include third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. If this changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required choices or controls.

12. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect on-device data, but no method is 100% secure. We recommend keeping your device protected (e.g., passcode/biometrics) and storing backups safely.

13. Health, Allergen & Nutrition Information

Features such as allergen/dietary flags, nutrition estimates, and ingredient substitutions are generated automatically on your device and are approximate. They are provided for general information and convenience only and are not medical, dietary, nutritional, or food-safety advice.  14. Children's Privacy

Mum's Cooking is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted with an updated "Last updated" date.
