Multiplication Strategies began as a collaboration between Tracy Proffitt (Math Specialist) and Georgianna Cary (Fourth Grade Teacher). The goal was for Georgianna's fourth grade students to use the resources presented here for self-paced multiplication fluency instruction and practice. This site is a revised version of the original project that is now available for teachers and parents to use with their students.
This site is intended to be used after students have developed a foundation of multiplication as an operation. While a few activities have been provided for fives facts, we assume that most students using this resource have mastered the 0, 1, 5, and 10 facts. The strategies shared here are intended to be learned or reviewed in the order they are presented on the home page (2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 9, and 7) because they build on previous strategies. Once you determine the earliest set of facts your student needs to practice to become fluent, have them complete the corresponding self-assessment for this set of facts. Then allow approximately 2 weeks for the student to work through the 8 tasks in the order listed. You may want to encourage them to share any completed Jamboard or Google Slides documents with you so that you can provide feedback. Finally, have students revisit their self-assessment and rate their current level of comfort with the facts set to help you decide whether they should move to the next set of facts or continue practice with the current set.
