Multilingual and Multicultural Memphis in Action: Language, Education, and Community Engagement
Join us for a conversation with a diverse panel of University of Memphis students, actively engaged members of the Hispanic bilingual/bicultural communities of Memphis. In this panel, the University of Memphis recognizes the strengths and unique experiences of bilingual and bicultural individuals in the Memphis area.
Experiences with bilingual education (bilingualism at home, at school, types of programs (ESL, transitional, dual language, etc.)
Value of bilingual education for native, heritage, and L2 learner communities and impact on our local community
Language practices of bilingual communities in Memphis (linguistic landscape, availability of bilingual materials, translation/interpretation support)
Outreach and needs of multi/bilingual communities in Memphis (health, mental health, employment, access to information)
Engagement in mutli/bilingual communities in Memphis (experiences with local orgs and volunteering)
