Our podcasts are based on articles from the Journal of Counseling Psych, surrounding the subject of Asian Americans’ mental well beings. We derive information from the articles explaining the difficulties Asian Americans undergo which impact their mental psyche, and by also referring to counseling strategies, we inform our audiences on how to cope and heal from impactful events.
We separated our articles into two different categories, the former, on the topic of microaggression, being a subsidiary of the main theme of self-esteem. The first podcast discusses the elements and details of microaggression. The second podcast, on self-esteem, is built off from the first podcast, where we discuss the broader issues derived from microaggression while focusing on mental health in particular. We will be diving deep into some experiences that we have faced and a more in-depth of cultural traditions that can possibly have a greater impact on Asian Americans’ mental health; specifically, women.
In these podcasts, we discuss various issues Asian Americans may face revolving around their self-esteem, faced with microaggressions, along with counseling strategies and how to move forward after experiencing trauma. Counselors may use the resource to identify common issues relatable among Asian Americans, referring to the strategies suggested at the end, or posted separately to discuss in further detail. References to counseling strategies would enable counselors to identify which issues to address and how to approach them, fostering more in-depth sessions with clients when the counselors have, at the very least, a foundational understanding of common issues.
