The Project
Understanding how language assessment shapes the well-being of multilingual children
Understanding how language assessment shapes the well-being of multilingual children
The Challenge
Assessment practices do not always reflect the linguistic realities of multilingual children. Assessment is often conducted only in the majority language, which can contribute to misdiagnosis, inappropriate support, unequal access to services, reduced communicative confidence, and lower participation and inclusion.
The Central Question
How does the language used in assessment relate to the well-being of multilingual children with language disorders.
Why it matters
Assessment is more than a diagnosis. It can shape children’s opportunities, experiences and futures.
From understanding the challenge to building more inclusive practice.
