Muirlands 2024 East Coast Expedition

Preliminary Itinerary

**Hotels are tentative.  Hotels listed are previously stayed at locations, however, due to COVID, locations may change based on availability.


Saturday, March 30

•Early morning check-in with group leaders at Lindbergh Field. (see Flight Information pages) 

• Evening arrivals at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

Bus to Quincy Marketplace for dinner.

• Check in to the Le Meridien Cambridge**.


Sunday, March 31

7:00 Breakfast at the hotel.

8:30 Buses depart for Plymouth, MA. 

9:30 Arrive at Plimoth Plantation.

11:30 Return to Boston. Lunch at Quincy Marketplace.

1:00 We will walk to the Boston African American National Historic Site including the 54th Regiment Memorial and the African Meeting House. Along the Freedom Trail, we will visit the Massachusetts State House, Granary Burial Ground, Old South Meeting House, Boston Massacre site, Old State House and Faneuil Hall. Continue our walking tour with a visit to Boston’s famous North End, where we will see the Old North Church and the Paul Revere House.

6:00 Dinner at the Boston Hard Rock Cafe.

8:00 Depart for a walking tour of the campus of Harvard University.


Monday,  April 1

7:00 Breakfast at the hotel.

8:30 Buses depart for a visit to the Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum. 

11:00 Depart for New York City.

4:30 Check in to the Marriott Marquis** on Times Square.

5:30 We will start our visit to Manhattan, with a walk to Rockefeller Center where we will visit the Top Of The Rock, the top-floor observation deck of the GE Building.

8:00 Walk to dinner near Times Square. After dinner, we will take a short sightseeing walk around Times Square.


Tuesday, April 2

7:30 Walk to breakfast.

8:30 Buses pick us up to get us started on our tours of Manhattan. First, we will all travel to Lower Manhattan to view the Statue of Liberty. Next, we will walk to Wall Street and the 9/11 Memorial Plaza.

10:00 Students will split into groups and drop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the United Nations or the American Museum of Natural History. We will also see Central Park, Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Rockefeller Plaza. 3:00 Return to the hotel to relax and dress for the evening.

5:00 Walk to dinner on Times Square.

6:30 Walk to the fabulous live Broadway production of Wicked.


Wednesday, April 3

7:30 Walk to breakfast and check-out.

8:30 Depart for Philadelphia.

11:00 Walking tour of Independence National Historic Park. We will see Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Congress Hall, Elfreth’s Alley and Christ Church.

1:30 Visit the National Constitution Center. We will see a live presentation followed by a visit to the fun, interactive constitution museum.

3:00 Buses depart for Lancaster, PA.

4:30 Take a guided tour of the Amish farmlands. We will learn about the simple lifestyle practiced by the Amish and visit an authentic Amish farm and craft shop. 

6:30 Enjoy an authentic family-style Pennsylvania Dutch dinner.

9:00 Check-in to the Wyndham Gettysburg**.


Thursday, April 4

7:00 Breakfast, then check-out.

9:00 Arrive at the Gettysburg Visitor’s Center. We will start with a guided bus and walking tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield.

11:00 Return to the Visitor’s Center to visit the interactive museum.

1:30 Depart for Washington, DC.

3:00 Arrive in our nation’s capital. Our first stop will be the Jefferson Memorial. We will then take a walk around the Tidal Basin, through the beautiful Japanese flowering cherry trees to visit the FDR Memorial, the Martin Luther King Memorial and the World War II Memorial.

6:00 Dinner.

7:00 Begin our night tour of the monuments. We will visit the Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial and the Marine Corps War Memorial.

9:30 Check-in to the Marriott Crystal Gateway**.


Friday, April 5

7:00 Breakfast at the hotel.

8:00 Bus departs for Capitol Hill. We will visit the Capitol Visitor’s Center and Museum and take a tour of the Capitol. We will also see the Library of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court building.

11:00 Pose for our group photo at the base of Capitol Hill.

12:00 Spend the remainder of the afternoon visiting the museums of the Smithsonian Institution. We will see the Air and Space, Natural History, American History, American Indian Museums, plus the National Gallery of Art. 

5:30 Walk to the White House to take photos.

6:30 Metro to dinner.

8:30 Walk back to the hotel.


Saturday, April 6

7:00 Breakfast and check-out.

8:00 Arrive at Mt. Vernon, the beautiful home and farm of George Washington.

11:00 Arrive at Arlington National Cemetery. We will walk to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony. We will also see the Challenger Memorial and the Kennedy grave sites. 2:00 Bus to airports for late afternoon departures.
