Muhammed Afzal P is an Assistant Professor with the English Group at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. Afzal received his doctoral degree in Cultural Studies from The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad.
Prior to joining Azim Premji University, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani and as a guest faculty at the Centre for Comparative Literature (CCL), University of Hyderabad.
He teaches courses in Literary and Cultural Studies. His research primarily focuses on exploring how the cultural forms and aesthetic practices of the Left mediated Kerala’s experience of modernity. His research interests include Malayalam Cinema, Literary and Cultural Radicalism in Kerala, and Mediatization and Political Stardom in Contemporary Kerala. Currently, he is working on a book manuscript on Cinema and the Production of Modern Subjectivities in mid-twentieth Century Kerala.
