Safety and Operational Analysis with Mitigation Strategies for Freeway Truck Traffic in Wyoming
(2018 - 2020, Worked as PI, Funded by MPC and WYDOT)
Research Tasks
Analyzed the impacts of truck traffic on freeway segments in Wyoming and identified mitigation strategies to minimize negative impacts through the analyses of safety and operational implications that result from the interactions between trucks and other vehicles.
Provided recommendations to WYDOT and other related agencies to take necessary actions and decide on management strategies to reduce truck-involved collisions and improve overall operational performance along mountainous freeway carrying a large percentage of trucks.
Published and presented academic papers and prepared reports for the implementation of the study.

Proposing the Super DDI Design to Improve the Performance of Failing Service Interchanges in Mountain-Plains Region (MPR)
(2020 - 2022, Working as PI, Funded by MPC)
Research Tasks
Identified the most failing and hazardous interchanges in the mountain-plains region.
Evaluated the performance of super DDI design as a possible substitute in comparison to conventional interchanges.
Proposed geometric and signal diagrams for each site studied to provide the details regarding geometric features and the traffic signal data of the super DDI design.
Published and presented academic papers and preparing reports for the implementation of the study.
Below are two published and one submitted manuscripts (currently under review) for journal publications related to this project:
Automating the Implementation of Updated grade Severity Rating System (GSRS) for Wyoming Mountain Passes
(2020 - 2022, Working as PI, Funded by MPC and WYDOT)
Research Tasks
Validated the GSRS model by conducting some field tests with a fully loaded truck that has only drum brakes installed.
Incorporated horizontal curves into the formulation of the updated GSRS model.
Automated the weight-specific speed (WSS) signs for various truck-weight categories through an interactive, intuitive, aesthetically appealing, and user-friendly object-oriented Visual Basic.net software.
Published and presented academic papers and prepared reports for the implementation of the study.

Developing a Prototype System for Establishing Passing and No-Passing Zones of Two-Lane Highways
(2020 - Present, Funded by MPC and WYDOT)
As part of the project objectives, I assisted in developing passing sight distances for passenger cars overtaking truck platoons of various sizes and spacings among the trucks on a two-lane highway.

Developing a Collision Warning and Collision Avoidance System for WYDOT Snowplows
(2022 - Present, Working as PI, Funded by WYDOT and MPC)
Research Tasks
Developing a rear-end collision warning system using multiple sensors based on the extensive safety analysis, simulation models, and the responses from the surveys.
Evaluating the performance of color and type of warning lights in reducing crashes involving snowplows and other maintenance vehicles.
Performing a benefit-cost analysis of the proposed collision warning and collision avoidance system before the full-blown implementation of the final products.
Developing a guideline on how the subset of multiple sensors with warning lights from the proposed warning system can be transferred and employed in other slow-moving maintenance vehicles to reduce the potential risk of rear-end collisions.
Publishing and presenting academic papers and preparing reports for the implementation of the study.
Several manuscripts for journal publications related to this project are in working progress.
