Hi! I am an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, Rotterdam in Netherlands.
My research focuses on improving the operations of service-industry firms -- such as hotels, airlines, and restaurants -- by using data analytics, competitive intelligence, and empirical modeling. I specialize in demand estimation in revenue management contexts, accounting for the fact that observed demand is influenced by endogenous firm decisions such as pricing, assortment design, and capacity controls, in order to identify underlying customer preferences and purchasing dynamics.
I mainly rely on observational data. Particularly, I focus on settings where firms’ private information, for example competitor sales, is unobservable. This, together with some unobservable confounders, creates endogeneity problems and complicates the estimation task. Methodologywise, to address such challenges, I use a combination of optimization, econometrics and machine learning methods to identify the right causal relationships.
This allows me to develop robust models that provide reliable inputs for optimizing business decisions. These decisions could be pricing strategies, promotion/bundling initiatives or location decision-making.
During my PhD, I had the privilege of working under the supervision of Professor Kalyan Talluri at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. Later, I worked at Imperial College Business School, London as a Postdoctoral Teaching and Research Associate between January 2019-August 2020. I hold a Masters in Industrial Engineering from Koç University, Istanbul and a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University, Ankara.
