Effective date: September 16, 2026
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Muffin ("the App," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application. Muffin is an English-language learning app available to users worldwide. By using Muffin, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
Account information (optional): if you sign in with email or Google, we store your email address, display name, and authentication identifiers so your progress and gem balance can sync across devices.
Learning and wallet data: lessons completed, word-bank status, gem balance, lesson unlocks, and subscription status (whether Muffin Plus is active).
Device and usage information: device identifiers (such as your advertising ID), device type, operating system, language settings, and general usage data (screens viewed, lessons completed, time spent in the app).
Advertising interaction data: when you choose to watch a rewarded video ad, our ad partner (Google AdMob) processes data related to that ad request, such as your device's advertising identifier and approximate location, to serve and measure the ad.
Purchase data: when you buy gems or subscribe, the Apple App Store or Google Play processes your payment; we receive confirmation of the purchase (product, amount, date) but never your card or bank details.
Support messages: if you contact support in the App, we store the contents of that conversation so we can reply.
You can use Muffin's core lessons without creating an account. Sign-in is optional and is used to sync progress and purchases.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to: operate and improve the App's features (lessons and progress tracking); process gem purchases and subscriptions; show and measure the rewarded video ads you opt in to watch; confirm that a rewarded ad was actually completed before crediting gems (to prevent fraud); and understand overall usage patterns so we can improve the App.
Advertising and Rewarded Ads
Muffin shows ads in one place only: the Shop screen, as an opt-in rewarded video. You choose to watch an ad in exchange for gems — ads are never shown automatically, during a lesson, or on any other screen.
Ads are served by Google AdMob. If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Muffin shows a consent message (via Google's User Messaging Platform) before any ad-related data processing takes place, so you can consent to, or decline, personalized advertising. If you decline, you may still see non-personalized ads. You can review or withdraw your consent at any time from the App's privacy settings.
AdMob and its advertising partners may process device identifiers, coarse location, and ad-interaction data as described in Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and the list of AdMob ad technology partners.
In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
Muffin offers optional gem packs and subscriptions. All payments are processed directly by the Apple App Store or Google Play; Muffin does not receive or store your card, bank, or other payment credentials. We only receive confirmation that a purchase was made, along with the product and amount, so we can unlock the relevant content in your account.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We share limited information with the following categories of service providers, solely to operate the App: Google AdMob (to serve and measure the rewarded video ads you opt in to); Apple App Store / Google Play (to process purchases and subscriptions); Cloud infrastructure (Supabase), to store accounts, learning progress, wallets, and support tickets when you use those features; and analytics providers, to understand app usage and improve stability and features.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data Retention
We retain the information described above for as long as needed to provide the App's features, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Ad-related identifiers are handled according to Google AdMob's own retention practices. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated personal data except where we must keep a record (for example, a completed purchase) to meet legal or accounting requirements.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing — including withdrawing consent for personalized ads at any time. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland have rights under the GDPR and equivalent UK/Swiss law; residents of certain US states have similar rights under applicable state privacy laws. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in "Contact Us" below.
To delete your Muffin account and associated personal data, use the "Delete your account" page on this site.
Children's Privacy
Muffin is directed at a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required by local law (generally 13, or 16 in parts of the EEA) without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
International Users
Muffin is available worldwide. Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States and other locations where our service providers (such as Google) operate, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where required, provide additional notice.
