This pay scale is available to the public, found through a Google search. All United States military branches are paid the same. From lowest rank to highest rank, regardless of branch, their base pay is the same. With every rank promotion you get a pay raise and every 2 years of service you get a pay raise.
I have been financially independent and secure since the age of 19 and without the Air Force I am not sure that would have been possible fresh out of high school.
Your pay is made up of three things; base pay, housing allowance (BAH), and food allowance (BAS). The chart you see here covers only base pay, think of it as the pay you get for doing your job. BAH is to help cover housing costs if you are not living in the dormitories and BAS is the same but for food. When you factor these three things together you get a better idea of what one realistically makes in the military. For example, an E-6 with over 8 years of service, So base pay per month is $3763. Then you add in BAH and BAS and make roughly $6000 a month.
In order to enlist into the Air Force or Space Force you do NOT need to pass a physical test (unless you are interested in Special Warfare career fields). The only physical expectation that is set upon you is a weight requirement based upon your height.
If you are over your max allowable weight your first step in order to join is to get below the maximum weight.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Until further notice our Air Force Recruiting Office will remain open and continue to hold appointments and ship out applicants to basic training. However, we will be requiring face masks, practicing social distancing, and operating on an appointment only basis. The intent is to minimize unnecessary contact for the safety of our applicants and our recruiters. Thank you for understanding.
The entire process should take 3-6 months before you ship out (unless you are still in high school, must graduate first) to basic training in San Antonio, TX at Lackland Air Force Base.
Step 1: Get Prequalified! Prior to scheduling an initial appointment you will be given an eligibility form to accomplish. This eligibility form helps me determine your qualifying status to serve in the Air Force/Space Force. Once you have returned the form to me via email I will contact you to set up a time and day for your initial appointment.
Step 2: Initial Appointment! At your initial appointment you must come prepared with your original copies of your social security card, birth certificate, high school diploma, college transcripts (if applicable), and a state issued ID (drivers license, state ID, passport, etc.). Think of your initial appointment as a job interview. You will be given a lot of information over benefits, job opportunities, enlistment process and more. I highly encourage applicants to come with questions written down to make sure all your questions are answered. If you have not taken the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) you will be given the opportunity to take a practice test during your appointment. I will use this test to gauge your ability to pass the actual ASVAB. If all goes well and you are ready to make the commitment of joining the Air Force/Space Force we can begin the necessary paperwork to get you down to the Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS).
Step 3: MEPS is located in Shreveport LA and is a two day process. You will be provided transportation and hotel stay at no cost to you. Your first day will start at the recruiting office where you will be given a briefing on what to expect and the do's and dont's. The shuttle will pick you up from the office and take you first to MEPS. Upon arrival you will be screened for any COVID-19 symptoms as well as a temperature check. From there you will accomplish your testing (ASVAB). Once testing is finished you will be transported to your hotel. That will complete your first day. The second day is your physical, think sports physical and annual exam combined into one. This exam includes blood tests and uranalysis, eye exam, hearing test, and a series of mobility tests. If all goes well during this process you will swear in to the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) and a shuttle will return you back to the recruiting office in Longview.
Step 4: Post MEPS The DEP is for everyone who is qualified after the two day process and waiting to book a job to ship out. We will complete your job counseling upon return from MEPS. Your job counseling will be done with your recruiter and they will be able to answer any questions you have and to discuss your options. You must give TEN JOB OPTIONS. You will only be matched with one of the 10 jobs you list.
Step 5: Shipping out! Every three months, beginning in October, our operations center will receive 200+ contracts (jobs). At this point they will review every DEP member and match jobs based on applicant's request and Air force needs. Air Force needs currently include Mechanical jobs, Electrical jobs, Security Forces, Linguists, Intelligence jobs, Cyber/Computer jobs and Special Warfare positions. Once you book a job you’ll receive a date to leave for basic training typically leaving within the next 1-3 months.
The Air Force offers 130 career field options in four areas; mechanical, administrative, general, and electrical. As with any other job hiring process we are not hiring for all jobs at the same time. Currently the Air Force is primarily in need of; all mechanical & electrical jobs, Security Forces, Linguists, Intelligence fields, Cyber jobs, and Special Warfare. To learn more about the jobs available to you please click the Air Force Careers button.
**For Space Force interested applicants you will need to speak directly with the recruiter.**

Meet Your Recruiter
About Me
I am Technical Sergeant Gary Becton. I am an active duty enlisted Air Force Recruiter in Mesquite, TX. I have been in the Air Force for over 13 years, and even on the bad days, I am so thankful that I decided to join. I joined the Air Force after my freshman year of college in 2008 and left for basic training three days after Christmas from Mobile, AL. My original game plan was to do my six years in Security Forces and then separate in order to join the FBI. Obviously plans changed and in 2014 I reenlisted for another four years. I am planning on doing a full 20 years of service so that I can retire at the age of 39. During my time so far in the Air Force I have come to learn that I have a passion for helping others, whether that is through simply doing my job, being a mentor to lower ranking members, or a shoulder to lean on for my peers. It is because of that passion I decided to continue my path in the service so that I can keep making a difference for my brothers and sisters in arms. I am excited to be able to assist young men and women in the Mesquite, TX communities in determining if joining the Air Force, or Space Force, is the right choice for them. I look forward to working with you, future Airmen and Guardians!
