History

1871-2021

"Let us use our heritage as stepping stones to a greater future, for yesteryear is gone and tomorrow is ever before us. Let us face tomorrows with confidence, unity, dedication, and a clear and decisive Christian witness."

The Church Plat

Original Church Covenant from 1871

As we trust we have been brought by divine grace to receive the Lord Jesus Christ and by the influence of His Spirit to give ourselves up to Him so we do now solemnly covenant with each other as God shall enable us to walk together in brotherly love, that we will exercise a Christian care and watchfulness over each other and faithfully admonish and entreat one another as occasion may require that we will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together nor neglect the great duty of prayer for ourselves and for others. And that we will endeavor to bring up our children and such as may be under our care at any time in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. And by a lovely example, endeavor to win our kindred and acquaintance to the Savior to holiness and eternal life. That we participate in each other's spiritual joys and endeavor with tenderness and sympathy to bear each other's burdens and sorrows. That we will follow after the things which make for peace, and speaking no evil one of another, avoiding all whisperings, doing nothing through strife or vain glory. We will, as far as possible, administer to the relief of the needy and distressed and by our cheerful contributions for the service of God's house, his ministers and the poor, encourage our deacons in the faithful discharge of their duty. That we will labor to find out the cause of sinness in a brother as soon as it is discovered or expressed and to remove it if possible and to submit to the order and discipline of the church as far as is consistent with the word of God. That we will seek divine aid to enable us to live circumspectly and watchfully in the world, denying ungodliness and worldly thus remembering that as we have been voluntarily buried by baptism, and have been raised up from the emblematical grave, so there is on us a special obligation henceforth to live a new and holy life. That we will endeavor to support a faithful evangelical ministry among us, and support it as we may be able in destitute places. That through life evil report and good report in prosperity or in adversity, seek to live to the glory of Him who hath called us out of darkness into His marvelous light and has promised to be with His people even unto the end of the world.
