How I got started:

I began mountain climbing by attending the Portland Mazama basic climbing class and successfully climbed Mt. Hood in July of 1969.

From 1973 to 1975 I was a member of Cascade East Rescue, participating in rescues and attending climbing seminars on rock rescue, avalanche rescue, and first aid. At this time I learned to cross country ski.

In 1976 I joined Jefferson County SAR and was elected President for two years, I attended seminars on winter survival, man tracking and mountain medicine. I have participated in many types of rescues over the years.

In the years 1994, 1995 I was again elected President of the Jefferson County Search & Rescue club. In the years 1996 - 2004 I was elected Treasure/ Secretary of the Jefferson County Search & Rescue club. I am presently rope team training coordinator for Jefferson County Fire/EMS Department # 1.

Over the past 50 years of climbing, I have climbed over 60 mountains in the Northwest and climbed 100’s of different rock climbing routes at Smith Rock State Park-OR, Leavenworth-WA, Lovers Leap-CA , Yosemite-CA, Joshua Tree-CA, Post Falls-ID , Castle Rock-ID, City of Rocks-ID and Estes Park-CO; Red Rock NV; Internationally El Chanta-Mexico, Coondo Termine Tedigo-Cuba, Vinales-Cuba and Campismo-Cuba climbing areas.

I have also designed and built several climbing walls and worked on several others.
