Basic information about the admission procedure for the M. Tech in SSET programme
Specializations offered in:
Students would be able to choose from contemporary research technologies like spintronics & nanoscience and nanotechnology, quantum/nano-electronics, quantum sensors, advance fuel cell and battery technology, materials for renewable energy and storage, engineered materials for device application, advanced ceramics and composites, thin film technology, semiconductor micro-electronic technology, optical electronics, functional properties of materials & devices, MEMS and NEMS, analog integrated circuit design and digital signal processing.

Eligibility and Selection Process
Minimum eligibility criteria:
Candidates who possess the minimum educational qualifications of B.Tech. (Engg. Physics)/M.Sc. (Physics)/ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Metallurgical Engg. or its equivalent in relevant discipline are eligible to seek admission to the M. Tech. in SSET programme. Candidates of General, Gen-EWS and OBC category must have secured at least 60% marks or CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale at the qualifying degree level; but for SC/ST/PD category candidates, this percentage is 55% or 5.50 CGPA on a 10 point scale. The marks awarded for the qualifying degree will be considered for eligibility.
Selection process:
(a) GATE Qualified candidates:
Admission to the M. Tech. in SSET programme will be open to the candidates qualified in GATE on the basis of valid Normalized GATE marks in the disciplines PH/EE/EC/MT. The normalized GATE marks of different papers will be used to prepare the merit list for programmes of the department.
(b) IIT Graduates:
Direct admission without GATE will be offered to IIT graduates with a minimum CGPA of 8.00 on a 10 point scale.
Timelines
The institute offers a full-time programme of 2-years spread over 4 semesters and will comprise of theory, laboratory and project/thesis work. See the course structure for more details.
Opportunity/ Placements/ Research in Foreign Countries
All the academic units of the institute have well equipped research laboratories. In addition, there are a number of central facilities for the candidates to use. The candidates will have the opportunity to extend their work to PhD with the associated faculty members in the department. The associated members also have many research collaborations with leading universities in USA, Europe, Japan, and other East Asian countries which can provide excellent opportunities to the candidates for exchange programmes. The Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy (SRIC) center in the department coordinates several collaborative projects with industry which eventually lead to formation of startups/placements.
