Master of Technology in Photonics
The programme has been started by the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, with a focus on research in the field of Photonic device technologies, made of different domains of optics and photonics ranging from bulk systems such as fiber optics, microphotonics, plasmonics, random lasers, etc. to quantum systems such as trapped atoms, nanophotonics. This programme has received fundings from the Government agencies like MHRD, DST, DIT (formerly DoE), and DoT. In addition, R&D work has also attracted considerable international collaboration . The development work has led to commercialization of optical sensors, and light emitting devices.
The programme carries research in the various experimental and theoretical areas such as: Quantum optics, Fiber optics, Plasmonics, Nanophotonics, Metamaterials, Integrated photonics, Random lasers, Solar Cells, etc.
The Programme is open to students having B. Tech (Engineering Physics/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Communication/ Instrumentation/Metallurgy/Nanotechnology) or M.Sc (Physics/ Electronics/Applied Physics/Photonics/Engineering Physics) degree in GATE disciplines of PH/EE/EC/ MT/IN.
