Some great questions were asked:
1. What do we do with all the stuff you send home? Keep them unless you receive a 70% or below. If that is the case please read the note and indicate if you want a retest or not.
2. If parents have questions, what should they do? Most of the questions can be found in our Syllabus, Weekly Newsletter, MIMS2030 facebook page, ask another parent, email us, set a conference.
3. How do you challenge our kids who are GT or reading above level. We have projects, reading groups, differentiated work, and workstations.
4. Is classwork graded? Yes, it's collected for a completion grade or graded. If they have a check mark, they received credit for it. They will receive a grade of 0% - 100%. If your child needs additional practice, we will post it in SeeSaw or send it home for review.
5. What is mystery words? Mystery words on a Spelling Test are words we've worked on in class with the same spelling pattern. We are checking for understanding vs. memorizing a spelling list.
6. Sight Words and Challenge Words: Do they need to study those? They should be able to read the sight words. If your child is mastering the Spelling Words with ease, then challenge them with Spelling Sight Words (has irregular spelling patterns). Challenge Words: The students are identifying the vocabulary and spelling it correctly.
1. Who colors in their daily conduct? The students will color in their daily conduct. If they receive a yellow or red, teacher will write reason. During the 3rd grading cycle, we will teach students to be responsible for their daily conduct. They will write in their color and reasons for their conduct even if they are on yellow and red.
2. If their daily conduct is blank, what do I do? Ask your child what color did they end up on. Most likely green or purple. Then sign. Remember Green is good! :-)
Emails and SeeSaw will replace LivingTree this year. If you want more updates, you can also visit the MIMSHISD.org website or join the MIMSParent facebook page.
