SOUTHERN SOUL
CELEBRATION
Join us for the 3rd Annual Mississippi Southern Soul Celebration on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, as we honor the rich legacy, powerful influence, and cultural impact of Southern Soul music in the state where it was born.
The day begins at 1:30 PM at the Mississippi State Capitol with a historic Southern Soul Day Recognition presented by the Mississippi Legislature. Guests are invited to attend a special press conference celebrating the incredible contributions of Mississippi Southern Soul artists and their influence across the state and beyond.
This year, we are proud to recognize trailblazers Shoutout 2 D Ford and Tay Cheesy for their outstanding contributions to the culture and their continued role in advancing the Southern Soul movement.
The celebration continues at 5:00 PM at MBar Sports Lounge for an unforgettable evening featuring an Awards Ceremony and live performances by legendary Southern Soul artists, including Jaye Hammer, Keneisha Fairley, Earl Jackson, and Denise Cannon.
We will also proudly recognize the line dance groups who kept the floor hot all year long at Southern Soul Tuesday, celebrating the energy, unity, and community that fuel this movement, including TheeSouthernSoul Steppaz, Steppas N Motion, Quali FiedSteppaz SC, Magnolia Gemz and Gentz, and Soul N Sync.
This annual celebration brings together artists, industry leaders, dancers, and fans for a powerful day of recognition, live music, and culture.
'Shoutout 2 D-Ford'
DeMarcus Ford, widely known in the Southern Soul and Blues community as 'Shoutout 2 D Ford' or simply 'D Ford' , is a talented musician, producer, and songwriter whose sound is deeply rooted in the rich musical soil of the Mississippi Delta.
Born in Indianola, Mississippi, and educated at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Mound Bayou, D Ford grew up surrounded by the legacy of blues, soul, and storytelling that defines the region. Now residing in Belzoni, Mississippi, he continues to carry that tradition forward through his music and production work.
D Ford’s musical journey began at age 16 when he was inspired by his brother-in-law, Terrence Liddell, to pick up the guitar. He was also heavily influenced by the legendary Muddy Waters, whose unique guitar sound helped shape D Ford’s musical style and appreciation for authentic Delta blues expression.
In addition to his guitar influences, D Ford found inspiration in Mississippi hip-hop icon David Banner, particularly in his approach to beat-making and branding. Banner’s signature use of his name as a beat tag inspired D Ford to create his own recognizable producer tag — “Shoutout 2 D Ford” — which has since become a signature stamp across his productions.
Over the years, he has grown into a skilled multi-instrumentalist, mastering guitar, bass, and piano, allowing him to craft full, authentic Southern Soul soundscapes.
As a producer, D Ford has helped shape the sound of numerous artists in the Southern Soul and trail-ride music scene. His production credits include:
• “Keep On Stepping” – Mike Clark Jr.
• “Welcome to the Country” – Arthur Young
• “Cowgirl Trailride” – Tonio Armani
• “Juke Joint Love” – Simply Wayne
• “My Type of Carrying On” – Nephew Jones
Along with hundreds of additional recordings that continue to energize dance floors, juke joints, and trail rides across the South.
Beyond music, D Ford is a devoted family man. He is married to his wife Felicia and is a proud father to his children: Zoey, Aalayah, Jayda, Jordan, and Ziyon. He is also a faithful member of Strangers Home Church in Isola, Mississippi, where his values of faith, community, and service remain central to his life.
Guided by his personal belief that “Where words fail, music speaks,” Shoutout 2 D Ford continues to use his gifts to tell stories, uplift communities, and keep the spirit of Southern Soul alive.
