Puzzle Rooms are similar to Escape Rooms, but without the locked door. There are a lot of locked boxes, however! The goal is to find the puzzles hidden around the room. The puzzles will give you combinations to open the locks, and in turn opening the boxes will lead you to solve the mystery or achieve a goal. Teams of up to 6 people have one hour to "beat the room." Please call (308) 760-8863 or email msp15w16@gmail.com to reserve the room. It will be available starting Thursday, August 22 through Friday, September 20. Times are flexible - generally at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, and starting at 11 a.m. on weekends, but we can arrange a time that works for your group.
Cost: $15/adult, $10/children and students (not recommended for children younger than 6 or so, simply because they might get bored). All proceeds will benefit the Main Street Players, a 501(c)3 nonprofit community theater, and Wilde Thing Youth Theater.
Each room has a theme and a story, which will change periodically. Our current room is the Mystery of the Sun Goddess. An adventuress made contact with a never before discovered village, isolated from the modern world. This village hid a secret - a statue of a Sun Goddess that has the power to heal sickness and restore life. Naturally, she wanted to share her discovery with the world. However, in removing the statue from its home, she damaged it, losing the crystal eye that is the source of the healing power. Soon, she became very ill. Then everyone around her also became ill. She realized the sickness will continue to spread until the statue is made whole again. Unfortunately, she is too ill to tell us where the eye or even the statue is. She had built a replica of the temple where she found the idol, and we believe she also hid clues of how to find them. Now we need your team to find the clues, solve the puzzles, and restore the eye to the idol - and save the world!
Once your team enters the room, you are on your own! We recommend you look the room over carefully to find everything you can. Anything could be a clue or a piece of a puzzle! Start looking for things that go together - and things that don't seem to belong! Remember your end goal - open the locked boxes and restore the goddess's eye (and find the goddess!!)
Everything you need to solve the puzzles is in the room, and shouldn't take more than "common sense" to figure out.
Tips:
There will be a number of locked boxes in the room. Look at the locks to see how they open, so you know what you are looking for. Do you need a key? A letter combination? Or a series of numbers? How many letters or numbers are in each combination? This can help you focus what you are looking for.
Each combination lock will have a puzzle or series of puzzles that will give you the combination to open it. Remember, this is a game - don't try to pick the locks or open the boxes some other way, because then what is the point? When you do solve the puzzle it will have been a waste of time. This is a game so play by the rules (trust us, it's more fun this way!)
Puzzles are not always immediately obvious, or even all in one place. If something doesn't make sense, keep looking! Don't give up if you get stuck.
Anything that can be moved or picked up easily are okay to be moved or picked up! If something doesn't move easily, please don't try to force it. There is no need to break anything. If something is supposed to come apart, there will be a way to do it (if in doubt, ask!). Please respect the room and the objects in it.
Group "like" things together as you find them. Look for connections between objects. On the other hand, anything that seems odd or doesn't seem to belong could be part of a puzzle or a clue. Everything is in the room for a reason...
You have three hints that can be used at any point in the game. Use them wisely, but if you are really stuck, ask for help sooner rather than later. Remember, you have a time limit!
How to use a hint: simply step outside the room - we will answer a question or give a hint on a specific puzzle. You won't be penalized but the clock will keep running.
We recommend the members of the group split up and work on different things - don't have everyone working on the same puzzle at the same time. Make sure everyone has something to do, so they don't get bored! Also, if the first group members who try to solve a puzzle can't figure it out, let someone else try - a new perspective or way of thinking might help.
As you open each lock, please place them in the "lock box". We ask that you leave them open and handle them carefully - some locks are easy to accidentally re-set, and then we can't use them anymore.
Solve each puzzle. Don't just ignore those that require more work or thinking. You have to solve them all to be successful!
Read! If there's something written out, it's there to help you. Make sure you read it! Speaking of which, if you've read this all the way to the end - good for you! It shows you have the perseverance to be successful! Here's an extra clue to help solve the room: read back through this page and look for a hidden message. It will help you solve the Mystery of the Sun Goddess! (and it gives you an idea of what you will be looking for). Good luck!
