Our organization hosts events where we advocate for the principles of the Libertarian Party, raise support for Libertarian candidates, and encourage all students to register to vote and engage in politics. Our club has a laid back, fun atmosphere and loves giving out merch.
MSOE is known for being a leader for preparing the next generation of engineers and innovators. We believe that liberty, freedom, and science go hand in hand.
We believe that Freedom of speech is not just a political right. It is a scientific necessity.
The disaster in Chernobyl, among other reasons, was ultimately a result of the authoritarian Soviet regime. The reactor was not properly peer reviewed and reality of the accident was covered up from even the people working to help control the situation. The scientific community was silenced. Consider also Galileio, an astronomer who observed the solar system and challenged the heliocentric model. In the eyes of the Catholic Church, this was considered blasphemous. In his later years, Galileio's books were banned and he was subject to a "villa arrest".
We believe a freer world is a better one for engineers. We believe we own ourselves and our work. We support the concepts of intellectual property, and entrepreneurship. We believe in the quest to get rich off of inventing and selling solutions to the world's problems and making the world a better place. We believe engineers should be able to choose projects to work on and companies to work for and reap the rewards of their discoveries and creations. Self-ownership is a key aspect of Libertarianism.
The Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the United States. Libertarian candidates frequently appear on ballots and our Presidential candidates in 1980, 1992, 1996, 2016, and 2020 appeared on the ballot in all 50 states. Libertarians believe in maximizing the liberties and freedoms of citizens, equality under the law, and fiscally responsible small government. This includes legalizing recreational drug use, reducing government interference with business, and ending our policy of being the world police. Our 2020 candidate, Dr. Jo Jorgensen, was the only woman on the presidential ballot.
