History

In 2011, the Center for Mathematics and Science Education at the University of Mississippi established the Professional Development Division. As schools and school districts began to hire or reassign teachers as mathematics specialists/coaches, the CMSE administration saw a need for this special group of people to come together to work and share ideas. The inaugural Mathematics Specialist Conference was held in Oxford, MS on November 18, 2011. The conference began with invited attendees who were named by their school and school districts as the mathematics specialist, mathematics coaches, lead mathematics teachers, etc. We chose to make the conference an annual event. Those who attend the conference have an opportunity to network together and found that they can be resources for each other. Thus, the Mississippi Mathematics Specialist Network was formed.
