Why is reading important for my child?
Reading is so incredibly important for everyone in today's world. It enables us to do many things that we may not even think require an adequate reading ability. We can read road signs to keep us safe while driving, understand media such as news channels and things online (like this website), read food labels to buy groceries, and much more. Teaching children to read early opens so many doors for them later on. Along with the reasons already listed, reading enhances vocabulary, grammar, writing, social skills, independence, self-confidence, imagination, and just about every aspect of their future academic journey.
Why is good literature important for my child?
Having good reading material is essential for our students. It should be on their reading level and about something that they are interested in. If a book or passage is too hard, they may become frustrated and convince themselves that they are bad at reading. If it is too easy, they may not learn anything new or improve their current skills. If the material is not something they like to learn about or not interesting, they may become bored and decide not to even try to read it.
