Mission San Jose Elementary team went to Nashville and conquered the K-6 Championship, with a 20/28 score, in 2009 Super National Chess Championships, April 3 - 5, 2009! The top 4 players of MSJE team contributed equally, 5 points each: Hemang Jangle got the 17th place individual trophy, Jerome Sun got 20th, James Kwok 24th and Armaan Kalyanpur 33rd place trophies.
"I've been aiming for this for four years. I had a group of second-graders I started with. ... I recognized I had a group with tremendous talent. I've watched them blossom," Lonsdale said. "I've always believed the students are very bright and very capable. But seeing them get the national, it's very satisfying."
