I am moving from the University of Southern California to the University of Hawai'i in January 2026! So currently the lab has only two members:
Bio: I was born and raised in Baghdad. I studied Geology at the University of Baghdad, and after graduating with a B.S. I worked for Schlumberger in Moscow, Russia. I then immigrated to the U.S. and got a Ph.D. from Western Michigan. I was a postdoc for almost 3 years at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts and for 1 year at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles before moving to Hawai'i in January 2026. I love science and I think it is the most insightful way to view the world. I am interested in a broad range of topics. Currently I am focusing on the roles of fish in the carbon cycle and carbon dioxide removal approaches.
Bio: I was born in Texas and grew up in Michigan. I spent sometime in Massachusetts and California, and now I live in Hawai'i! I love wet food and catnip, and chlorine from swimming pools drives me crazy! I help the lab by volunteering my whiskers for particle picking under the microscope. I was told that my whiskers are much better than laboratory brushes, so you are welcome!
