Graph literacy is the ability to read and write graphical representations. This skill is important for students to learn mathematics and to succeed in STEM courses and careers. With a world that is constantly evolving with more and more forms of visual information available, graph literacy is even more essential as we navigate everyday life.
What are the goals of this project?
Our project's goals are to advance knowledge of middle school students' developing understandings of graphs from the ground up, to design and empirically test tasks to support students' learning of coordinate systems and graphs. With the ultimate goal that these will enhance their graph literacy and provide a solid foundation for their future STEM academic coursework and careers.
