Hey, Hey, Hey! My name is Ms. Dionne Shelton, and I am an 11th-grade and 12th-grade teacher! I am a Pasadena Native. I graduated from the University of California, Riverside in 2023 with my BA in Sociology. Go Highlanders! My teaching specialties are General Science, Life Science, and Chemistry. Outside of teaching, I am also the coordinator for the Gloria B. Lee Scholarship.
My personal goal for all of my students is to think about what happens next. What are we doing once we graduate high school? Whether that is finding a job or continuing on your educational journey in college. Helping students feel confident making difficult decisions post-graduation is my special mission!
I look forward to meeting and working with you all!
Here are some photos of me and students over the years! Grad Season is my Favorite Season!!
Teacher Expectations:
Here at Learning Works Charter School, we believe in being flexible. Meeting students where they are in order to get them where they need to be. That said, students are expected to complete 2 modules per week and a TOTAL of 5 modules per learning period (month). If a student fails to meet the 5-module-per-month mark, they may become at risk of being dropped from our school's enrollment. It can also severely impact the student's graduation track.
WEEKLY CHECK-IN:
Students are required to meet with me 1-on-1 once a week for 1 hour. And attend school a maximum of 10 hours a week. That breaks down to 2 hours per day. Students who do not meet this requirement may be at risk of being dropped from our school's enrollment. This can also impact the student's graduation track.
Work Completion
When turning in modules, please make sure that:
All book work and projects are complete and in order according to the cover page. Incomplete work and/or work missing projects will be returned to you.
There is only one staple securing the module.
Remember, this is your hard work; always present it in a neat and organized fashion.
If you are more comfortable typing your work, I will also accept modules via email/Google Suite.
Honesty Policy
Honesty is your best policy!! I work really hard to provide students with a space where they can tell me anything. Even if you haven't completed your homework. Life is hard, especially when you're young. So I try not to be the teacher who forgets that! This also means I will be honest with students about their progress with their schoolwork.
I am truly here to support our students and help them actualize their future!
