The Support Team will support ANY child who exhibits a need for extra care while participating in children’s ministry--this may be a child with special needs or a child who is exhibiting separation anxiety, behavioral concerns, or just having a tough day! This volunteer may move from room to room and work with kids in a variety of activities and structures or may focus on one child as the need arises. Support team members will assist the weekend team by providing whatever support is necessary to ensure the child is safe, successful, and happy.
You will know who the support team volunteer is during the week you are serving because there will be a flier with the name and phone number of the volunteer on the counter in your room. Additionally, the support volunteer will make every effort to "check-in" with each room before service begins.
Objectives:
The support team desires for ALL children to know and understand the love of Jesus. We seek to provide an opportunity for each individual to learn about God’s love in a way that is accessible to them.
The support team will partner with and support kids, parents, and other children’s ministry leaders.
Responsibilities & Other Key Information for Support Team Volunteers:
Confidentiality is key!
Flexibility is necessary; placement and activities may vary dramatically during the course of one service and may change from one service to another. You may have multiple “hotspots” during one service.
When you arrive, check in with the front desk and grab the support team binder. As our support team kids arrive, you will check in with the room volunteers. Make sure volunteers are educated and comfortable and answer any pertinent questions.
If you are not needed as a one-on-one helper, feel free to go to service, but keep your phone in view. We will text you an “SOS” if we need you.
This ministry is inclusion-based; children should remain in the room with age appropriate peers unless the situation mandates a move elsewhere (in this case, contact leadership, if there is time).
Blend in! Remember--the support team assists ALL kids.
Keep parents updated of child’s successes and challenges in an encouraging, professional manner.
Following each service, update each child’s notes as needed. Place any confidential inserts back into the Support Team binder.
Kids may decide not to join their small group, that’s okay as long as the student is not being disruptive.
At times, some children may display physical aggression or other interaction problems. Be prepared and have a plan to handle these situations.
Always keep the leadership team informed!
